Meridian Hills Cooperative is an educational community that is located in the historic Meridian Hills area of Indianapolis. It was established as a non-profit in 1960 by involved parents who wanted their children to love school and learning. Our school offers a unique and developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschool and Kindergarten aged children with small class sizes and hands on experiences for all.
Children at Meridian Hills, under the guidance of highly educated teachers, learn about their world through the power of play. Whether it is on a field trip to an orchard, at school playing dress-up, riding big wheels and trikes with a friend on our large, shaded playground, or simply enjoying listening to their teacher read a story, each child learns and grows through play. We work with parents and children to help build the foundation for reading, writing, math, science, and language. And we encourage children to explore, question, and test hypotheses.
Meridian Hills is a parent run school, so every parent is invested in the learning and growth of their child. Parents make decisions for the school and participate in the classrooms at least once a month. We are a truly unique school not only in the success of our children through learning with play, but also in the rich camaraderie of our parents.
Our past is an amazing story of collaboration, and our future seems bright and full of promise. We hope that you not only enjoy browsing the information here on our website, but come to experience in person the magic that is Meridian Hills Cooperative Nursery School and Kindergarten.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” Meridian Hills Cooperative Nursery School and Kindergarten is a parent cooperative dedicated to helping children, parents, and teachers grow together, discovering not only what lies within each of us, but how we can affect the world around us as well.
